“Bathurst Remembers” – remembering VJ Day. This was held in August 2022 in three pavilions at the Bathurst Showground. This WW2 Exhibition will consist of “Snapshots of World War 2” – 600 enlarged photos of soldiers in action, battlefields, training, the home front, Bathurst Army Camp, etc. There will also be the “Wall of Valour” – Over 130 enlarged photos of World War 2 Service Men and Women with an association with Bathurst who enlisted and served” over 2000 assorted photos in all. And of course……we were there!
2021 Activities. Despite the COVID restrictions and lockdowns, we have managed to squeeze in some activities during the relaxations. And the standout weekend was almost cancelled due to snow but the roadways cleared and we got to ride on a Centurion and Matilda tank. We also conducted several tacticals at Krugerhof in the Southern Table Lands.
IRONFEST 2019. Ironfest is held annually in April at Lithgow, NSW. The festival is now in its 20th year and celebrates the melding of steel, art and people. This is our premier display opportunity of equipment, uniforms, weapons and of course our people – from both sides! We create a camp (or Lager) that showcases all our ‘stuff’ and the public can inspect both original and replica articles that would have been found in the European theatre of war. Our members also provide a display of drill and marching.
IRONFEST Photo Shoot. Leading up to Ironfest, members participate in a photo shoot at various locations around Lithgow. The photographs are used in a variety of media to promote Ironfest.
MARULAN Kite Festival. This annual festival is held in Marulan just north east of Goulburn to celebrate the spring equinox and is now a fixture in the Ausreenact calendar. This is largely an opportunity for our members to again display their WW2 collectables and vehicles. The event includes a display of marching and drill but no shooting.
Training Days. The group undertakes training on a regular basis to develop and improve marching drill and weapons practice. These sessions include field tactical manouvres and patrolling procedures. The highlight of these sessions is a communal lunch enjoy by all. Training days provide the opportunity for members to also bring collected items and update others on the progress of projects such as uniform acquisition and vehicle or equipment restorations.
Tactical Events. The group puts their training into practice at private tactical events. The majority of these are held on a private property which is covered with pine trees thus giving the Eastern European forest feel. Members arrive on Friday afternoon and set up their encampment. Saturday starts with a safety brief then orders are given to the two sides for distinct skirmishes. The day concludes with stories about the days activities around the camp fire.
Menangle Military Muster. Held mid year near Campbelltown at the Steam Museum, this is a two day event. A static display with camp that generally attracts a good number of visitors and funds raised through the gate goes to Legacy.
Clarendon Hobby Show. For a number of years, Ausreenact attended the hobby show at Clarendon which was subsequently amalgamated with the Truck show in September 2018. The club made a decision to attend the Marulan Kite Show in 2019 due to the event falling on the same date.
Photo Shoot 2017. In February 2017, a number of the Group participated in a photographic shoot in Lithgow State Forest. The photographer was Gary Sheppard who wanted some military portraits for his portfolio. The results of that day were absolutely tremendous photographs that are sharp and detailed. Gary took hundreds of photos that day and these are just a few that came out after a diligent sort. We are indebted to Gary and his excellence in photography speaks for itself.
